Health Department Closes Early 9/15/22 for Staff Training
HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health in Pasco, Citrus, and Hernando counties, and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) are celebrating World Breastfeeding Week 2022 from August 1 – 7. This year’s theme is Step up for Breastfeeding: Educate and Support.
“I have seen so much growth in support and education of breastfeeding within our community," Jennie Rae Hill-Lanziero, Breastfeeding and Peer Counselor Coordinator, DOH-Hernando, who has been with the program for 13 years shared. "Mothers are helping each other and partners, fathers, and grandparents are attending more educational opportunities to help support their loved one. I am honored to support these families and our community with continued opportunities to learn more about the importance of breastmilk for our infants.”

The World Breastfeeding Week 2022 theme encourages everyone to support breastfeeding mothers, babies, and their families by creating a breastfeeding-friendly environment. Protecting breastfeeding ensures:
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for infants for the first year of life and beyond, with the addition of appropriate complementary foods when the infant is developmentally ready, around 6 months of age.
